Honorable Mention Absence seaandbell (Debi Carwell) I am left in silence, unwrapping an azure masterpiece some clouds and rain this home an empty suitcase the dust marked in small tears or roses blooming in the salt doors aren’t exits. it’s not life, but something unbidden pushing through grows without thinking like a mountain, waiting for a heart in its deep pine silhouette crumpled behind the dresser forgotten words, hidden in layers of sand There’s only my name here now, sunset’s violent splash, warning of another tomorrow a page of the ravaged sky Why do I keep waiting here? Insurance papers request a tally: night’s chasms, the shattered fire of stars. pieces fly away, like every time I see the ring, curled in shadows of burnt photographs Gone in the windy spaces, yet I tether chairs, sofas anchor myself to pass the time, I have some sepia moments in a little box, a line of dried signature Once you said there was little more to tell and so you remain quiet in the earth, stars high overhead right where you wanted them.
